Geology Conference Abstracts now available

As reported in an earlier post, the Second Conference on Creation Geology was held recently in conjunction with the 2008 Biology Study Group Conference, straight after the Sixth International Conference on Creationism. An afternoon session of the joint conference was devoted to the geology talks:

  • “In-place” fossils by chance: a simple statistical analysis – John Woodmorappe
  • The Erosion of the Niagara Gorge – Kurt Wise and Peter Gentry
  • Sandwaves as a model for the origin of thick cross-bedded sandstones: a preliminary survey - Paul Garner
  • Aqueous facies transitions within the Coconino Sandstone, Arizona – John Whitmore and Ray Strom
  • The South Fork Superfault: evidence of a catastrophic gravity slide, Wyoming, USA – Timothy Clarey

The abstracts for these talks are now available for download from the Cedarville University website.

Another significant development from the conference was the formation of the Creation Geology Society (CGS), under the direction of Drs Kurt Wise and Andrew Snelling. The CGS is a faith-based, professional geology society, similar in concept to the existing Creation Biology Study Group (BSG). Seven creation geologists, all possessing terminal degrees, have agreed to serve as board members for the new society: Steve Austin, Tim Clarey, Elaine Kennedy, Marcus Ross, Andrew Snelling, John Whitmore and Kurt Wise. BCM welcomes this positive initiative.

‘Time for an upgrade?’ New article by Paul Garner

answers_3_4-cover.jpgThe latest edition of Answers magazine, Vol. 3, No. 4, published by our friends at Answers in Genesis, is a special themed issue on the subject of building the creation model of origins.

BCM’s Paul Garner has contributed an article to this edition about scientific models of the global flood (pp.46-49). In the article, he describes how he came to embrace the catastrophic plate tectonics model, first proposed by a team of creationist geologists and geophysicists in 1994.

The article is freely available here as a sneak preview of the new edition.
